Sacred Truth Friday: Sin; New Covenant

Morning Sermon
Sin

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. - 1 John 3:4 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1John3:4&version=NKJV
Sin is lawlessness. Transgression against God's law. Even things left undone is sin (James 4:17). Sin originated in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned (Genesis chapter 3). Sin is universal as in we all sin and fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23). Dont deny I have sinned. If I do so, I deceive myself,  make God a liar, and His truth is not in me (1 John 1:8,10). Sin leads to spiritual death (Romans 6:23), and spiritual death is hell, the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15).

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? - Romans 6:1-2 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans6:1-2&version=NKJV
Dont live in sin, thereby abusing His grace. Instead confess and repent. He will forgive (1 John 1:9).  Put all sin to death (Colossians 3:5-7). Don't die in my sins, don't die unforgiven (John 8:24). Walk in the light. And the blood of Christ will continually cleanse me (1 John 1:7). Remember confess and repent and I will be forgiven (1 John 1:9). The Gospel must be obeyed to receive initial forgiveness of sins. Abs obedience we must remain faithful to God (Revelation 2:10) in order to remain in a saved state.

Afternoon Sermon
New Covenant

then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will,  O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. - Hebrews 10:9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews10:9&version=NKJV
God took away the 1st covenant to establish the 2nd. Jesus is a better high priest (Hebrews 8:6-8). He lives forever (Hebrews 7:24). He is the Mediator of a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6). Seeing as He obtained eternal redemption for us through His blood (Hebrews 9:12). The old covenant was just a tutor to bring us to Christ (Galatians 3:23-24). We are now responsible to God under the New Covenant, or Testament, not the old. We believe in the Old Testament. We learn from it. We just don't live by it. All Scripture is inspired of God. Old and New Testaments (2 Timothy 3;16). Jesus the Mediator of a better new covenant (Hebrews 8:6).  Our High Priest who sympathizes with us and can help us escape the hour of temptation (Hebrews 4:15). He has perfected us forever as we are sanctified (Hebrews 10:14). So let us hold fast to our faith without wavering (Hebrews 10:23).

Two wonderful sermons from Stephen Wiggins.
