Sacred Truth Friday: Death; Peace With All

Morning Sermon Death  One generation passes away, and another generation comes; But the earth abides forever. - Ecclesiastes 1:4 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes1:4&version=NKJV A. Generations come and go B. Earth abides forever  Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was  vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun. Then I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly; For what can the man do who succeeds the king?— Only what he has already done. Then I saw that wisdom excels folly As light excels darkness. The wise man’s eyes are in his head, But the fool walks in darkness. Yet I myself perceived That the same event happens to them all.So I said in my heart, “As it h

In 1 Corinthians chapter 12, Paul discussed spiritual gifts and unity of believers, that they are all one.  In Chapter 14, he discusses spiritual gifts again. The Corinthian church was prideful about their spiritual gifts and did not use them for edification of the church.  This brings a point home: we should use our talents for the church, for God's kingdom.  That's why Chapter 13 is sandwiched between chapters 12 and 14. We are to love others. Not be prideful about our talents thinking we are better than others. In Acts 18, the Corinthian converts are Aquila, Priscilla, Justus, Crispus and his household, Apollos. Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. - 1 Corinthians 4:6 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Corinthians4:6&version=NKJV The Corinthians were pu

Gospel Wednesday: Hebrews Chapter 7

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,”without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils. And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham;but he whose genealogy is not derived from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he re

Sacred Truth Friday: Grasping for the Wind; Good in Sight of All

Two great sermons from Stephen Wiggins. Morning Sermon Grasping for the Wind Ecclesiastes discusses the brevity of life and contuation of this world. I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven; this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man, by which they may be exercised.I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind. - Ecclesiastes 1:12-14 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes1:12-14&version=NKJV A. Works outside of God futile Then I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly; For what can the man do who succeeds the king?— Only what he has already done. Then I saw that wisdom excels folly As light excels darkness. The wise man’s eyes are in his head, But the fool walks in darkness. In Depth Bible Study: Qualities of Love

Review: Agape love. Self sacrificing. Unconditional. 747 principle mentioned in the video: he who is forgiven little, loves little. He who is forgiven much, loves much (Luke 7:47). We are to love all, even enemies, with agape love. After all, God loved us when we were unlovable. Now onto the lesson When we seriously  consider how much God has forgiven, we will forgive others more easily. Considering how Christ emptied Himself for us enables us to put others first. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans5:8&version=NKJV Look at how generous He is with us. We can and should be generous with us. We live in a "all about me" entitlement society. And as New Testament Christians we should be all about God and others. My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality. For if there shou

Gospel Wednesday: Hebrews Chapter 6

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. - Hebrews 6:1-8 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews6

Sacred Truth Friday: Rich Man and Lazarus

“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and  fared sumptuously every day.But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with  the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to  Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and  cool my tongue; for I  am tormented in this flame.’But Abraham said, ‘Son,  remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you c

This is our first in depth Bible Study. The first lesson is Qualities of Love. The lesson is not my own. I'm just providing links to it. https://montevistacoc.com/class/love We'll be in this lesson for the next 22 weeks. Just follow along in the YouTube videos which I'll be embedding into this blog. Download the PDF at the above link. Agape love. A command for New Testament Christians. Not an option. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;does not behave rudely, does

Gospel Wednesday: Hebrews Chapter 5

For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was. - Hebrews 5:1-4 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews5:1-4&version=NKJV A. The weakness of the Old Testament system      1. Impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to forgive our sins (Hebrews 10:4)     So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”As He also says in another place: “You  are  a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek”;who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, wit

Sacred Truth Friday: An Adulterous Woman

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James1:21&version=NKJV A. Receive His word with humility Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”And again He stooped

Gospel Wednesday: Hebrews Chapter 4

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;and again in this place:  “They shall not enter My rest.”Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not after

Sacred Truth Friday: Godly Fear

In the book of Genesis there are 4 notable episodes of sin. Ch. 3: Adam and Eve eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Ch. 4: Cain murders Abel. Chs. 6-9: Universal sin. World destroyed by flood. Ch. 11: Sin of pride as humans attempt to build tower of Babel. But Noah was a man of faith and godly fear. And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all f
