Sacred Truth Friday: For Troubling Times

The Lord  is  my shepherd; I shall not want.He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. - Psalm 23:1-6 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm23:1-6&version=NKJV He's my perfect Shepherd. I shall not suffer want.  I lay down in green pastures and am led to still waters by His mighty hand.  Because of His name's sake He restores my soul and leads me in paths of righteousness.  I may be in troublesome times but I will not fear for He is with me. His rod and staff are here to comfort me.

In Depth Bible Study: Mark the Servant's Gospel Lesson 1

We are in a new lesson Mark The Servant's Gospel from West Main church of Christ.                              Mark The Servant's                             Gospel Lesson 1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.”“The  voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the  Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ”John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.I indeed baptized you with water, but He wi

Acts Chapter 16 Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek. He was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium.Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek. And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem. So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily. Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to

Keep Zeal Alive: Loving Our Enemies

Loving Our Enemies “You have heard that it was said,  ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’But I tell you not to resist an evil person.  But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever  compels you to go one mile, go with him two.Give to him who asks you, and  from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.“You have heard that it was said,  ‘You shall love your neighbor  and hate your enemy.’But I say to you,  love your enemies, bless those who curse you,  do good to those who hate you, and pray  for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for  He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if

Yummy Recipe Monday: Chewy Nutty Squirrel Bars

Image
This is the type of treat that we love to have in our recipe arsenal; it’s great at any time of year, for bake sales, fundraisers, potlucks, and for holiday cookie exchanges. Nutty squirrel bars will stand out from the usual cookie fare and are downright irresistible. Salted caramel, if you’ve not tried it, is the perfect combination of salty and sweet, and we love the crunch factor that comes from both the nuts and cookie base. We love all the layers of flavor! Try these with walnuts, pecans, peanuts…almost any nut will do; we prefer to use unsalted so that the dessert isn’t overwhelmed with salty flavor. Our squirrel bars are sweet, chewy, salty, nutty – we think that’s a recipe for success! Chewy Nutty Squirrel Bars Serves 24-32 bars; 40 minutes INGREDIENTS 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened and divided 1 cup powdered sugar 1 ¼ cup flour ⅓ cup cocoa powder 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 cup caramel baking chips ½ cup chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts 4

Sacred Truth Friday: Judgment

Image
Sermon: Judgment Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. - Revelation 20:11-15 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation20:11-15&version=NKJV We will all face judgment one day. It truly matters how we live. If we obey the Gospel and are faithful to God, heaven will be our re

Walking Worthy Lesson 12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;praying always with all prayer and supplication in the

Gospel Wednesday: Acts Chapter 15

And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question. So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren. And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders; and they reported all things that God had done with them. But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” - Acts 15:1-5 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts15:1-5&version=NKJV Some Jewish Christians tried to bind circumcision on the Gen

Keep Zeal Alive: Keeping Our Word

“Again you have heard that  it was said to those of  old,  ‘You shall not swear falsely, but  shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’But I say to you,  do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is  God’s throne;nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of  the great King.Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let  your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. - Matthew 5:33-37 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew5:33-37&version=NKJV Don't swear by anything. Sacred Truth Friday: Grievous Times

Sermon Grievous Times But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. - 2 Timothy 3:1-9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy3:1

Walking Worthy Lesson 11 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.“For this reason a man shall leave his fath

Acts Chapter 14 Now it happened in Iconium that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Jews and of the Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren. Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was divided: part sided with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And when a violent attempt was made by both the Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to abuse and stone them, they became aware of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region. And they were preaching the gospel there. And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. This man heard Paul speaking. Keep Zeal Alive: Controlling Our Desires

“You have heard that it was said  to those of old,  ‘You shall not commit adultery.’But I say to you that whoever  looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to  sin,  pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to  sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. - Matthew 5:27-30 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew5:27-30&version=NKJV For me this is hard hitting. Sacred Truth Friday: The Wise and Foolish Virgins

They also had John as their assistant. Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. Keep Zeal Alive: Prioritizing Reconciliation

“You have heard that it was said to those  of old,  ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’But I say to you that  whoever is angry with his brother  without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother,  ‘Raca!’  shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says,  ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of  hell fire. Therefore  if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.Agree with your adversary quickly,  while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny. - Matthew 5:21-26 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew5:21-26&version=NKJV
