Sacred Truth Friday: How God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Saves Us Parts 1 & 2

This past week Stephen was in Alabama holding a Gospel Meeting. So Elliott Jackson preached in his place.

Morning Sermon
How God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Saves Us
Part 1

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” - Genesis 1:26 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis1:26&version=NKJV
We are made in the image of God. When we sin it grieves God (Genesis 6:5) and frustrates Him (Isaiah 5:4). If we reject Jesus, we have no eternal life (1 John 5:12). If we deny Him, He will deny us (Matthew 10:33). There is joy in heaven over one person who repents (Luke 15:7).

God is merciful (2 Chronicles 30:9) and even the king Manasseh humbled himself before God and repented (2 Chronicles 33:11-13). Jesus calls us to repentance (Mark 2:16-17). Once we obey the Gospel, the Holy Spirit sets His seal on our hearts (1 Corinthians 1:22). We should never grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30).

Afternoon Sermon
How God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Saves Us
Part 2

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten  Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John3:16&version=NKJV
God gave His only Son. That's grace. We have all sinned (Romans 3:23). Once we obey the Gospel, we have peace with God through His Son (Romans 5:1). The righteous and the wicked will be separated at the judgement (Matthew 13:47-50, 25:31-46).

Jesus is righteous (Romans 5:19) yet He suffered and died for our sins anyway (1 Peter 2:21-24). He finished the sacrifice for our sins upon the cross (Hebrews 10:12). As New Testament Christians, we should walk in the light (1 John 1:7). We continually need His blood for cleansing (1 John 1:9). Jesus is alive (1 Corinthians 10:12). And intercedes for us (Romans 8:34). The Spirit illuminates the Word that we may be saved (Acts 2:37-38). Once we come up out of the watery grave of baptism, we are to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). We are to put off the old self and put on the new (Ephesians 4:22-24) all the while having on the full armor of God to fight against the devil's schemes (Ephesians 6:10:17).

So in conclusion, God saves us by His grace, Jesus by His righteousness, life, blood, and death and the Holy Spirit by His illumination.
