Sacred Truth Friday: Obey Him; Lessons from Numbers 21

Morning Sermon
Obey Him

Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,“Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, and that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God.I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.” - Numbers 15:37-41 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers15:37-41&version=NKJV
He is my God. Obey Him. No idolatry! Sanctify Him in my heart (1 Peter 3:15). Obey Him. This is my all (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Don't be a show off (Matthew 23:5). Instead obey His will. Don't just merely acknowledge Him (Matthew 7:21). Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him (Hebrews 5:9). True love obeys (John 14:15).

Afternoon Sermon
Lessons from Numbers 21

Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way.And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.”So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord that He take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived. - Numbers 21:4-9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers21:4-9&version=NKJV

This passage of Scripture contains several lessons:

1. God is good
2. We sin
3. God's anger toward sin
4. We repent
5. God is merciful

Pray we all continually confess and repent (1 John 1:9) leaving sin far behind.

Two wonderful sermons from Stephen Wiggins.
