Sacred Truth Friday: Baptism; Bodily Resurrection of the Dead

Morning Sermon
Baptism

Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), - John 4:1-2 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John4:1-2&version=NKJV
A. Jesus baptized people through His disciples

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you,  unless one is born  again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you,  unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. - John 3:1-5 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John3:1-5&version=NKJV

Afternoon Sermon
Bodily Resurrection of the Dead

Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will  hear His voiceand come forth— those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. - John 5:28-29 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John5:28-29&version=NKJV
A. All will be resurrected
    1. Life or condemnation
    2. Depends on obedience to the Gospel and being faithful to God

The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother.Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh.Last of all the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”Jesus answered and said to them, “You are  mistaken,  not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but  are like angels  of God in heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”And when the multitudes heard this,  they were astonished at His teaching. - Matthew 22:23-33 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew22:23-33&version=NKJV
A. Don't be like the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, “We will hear you again on this matter. ” - Acts 17:32 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts17:32&version=NKJV
A. Don't mock at the resurrection

And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. - 2 Timothy 2:17-18 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy2:17-18&version=NKJV
A. Don't teach error concerning the resurrection
    1. Example: realized eschatology which teaches the resurrection of the dead, the Judgment, Satan's defeat has already happened.

I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust. - Acts 24:15 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts24:15&version=NKJV
A. Resurrection of the just and unjust

Lesson: Resurrection of the dead will most certainly happen. Be prepared through obedience to the Gospel and faithfulness to God.
