What Does the Scripture Say: The Episcopal Church

What Does the Scripture Say?

The Episcopal Church

1 Corinthians 12:20 New King James Version (NKJV)
20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

Today we are going to examine the Episcopal church and see immediatly that it is not the church of the Bible.

This church was started in 1532.  Yet the Lord's church was started in the first century on the day of Pentacost (Acts 2).

Daniel 2:44 New King James Version (NKJV)
44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall [a]break in pieces and [b]consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

According to Daniel's prophecy this kingdom (the church) would stand forever.

Matthew 16:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not [a]prevail against it.

Jesus promised to build only one church.

Mark 9:1 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Transfiguration of Christ
9 And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God [a]present with power.”

The kingdom of God (the church) became present during the Roman era in the first century.

The Future House of God
2 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
3 Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning [a]hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.
Isaiah prophesied about the church coming into existence.

The Episcopal church started in England. The Lord's church started in Jerusalem (Acts 2).
The founder of the church was Henry VIII who was in an adulterous relationship with Anne Boleyn. The Catholic church condemned the relationship which is why he started the church.
1 Corinthians 3:11 New King James Version (NKJV)
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Jesus  Christ is the foundation of the church of the Bible. He is its founder (Matthew 16:18).
The head of the Episcopal church is the British monarch. Queen Elizabeth II holds the title. The adminstrative leadership of the church is headed by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Ephesians 1:22-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
But according to this passage Jesus is the head of the church.

The authority for the Episcopal church is just as disturbing: scripture, reason, and tradition. They claim that reason and tradition is just as important as Scripure.
But what does the Bible say about human tradition and reason?
Matthew 15:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
Jesus condemned human tradition in matters of religion. We are to follow what the Bible says not man made creeds and doctrines.
2 Peter 1:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
His Word gives us all we need for life and godliness.
1 Corinthians 4:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
Fools for Christ’s Sake
6 Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be [a]puffed up on behalf of one against the other.
We are not to think beyond what is written in the Bible.
Revelation 22:18-19 New King James Version (NKJV)
A Warning
18 [a]For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, [b]God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God[c] shall take away his part from the [d]Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
The Bible heavily condemns adding to and taking away from God's Word.

Let's now examine the doctrines of the Episcopal church:

1 Human creeds should be received such as the apostles creed, the Common Book of Prayer, and the Nicene creed.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Peter 1:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
But God's Word is complete. We don't need any human creeds and doctrines.
And remember we are not to go beyond what is written.
Or add to or take away from God's Word.
2 John 9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 Whoever [a]transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.
If we don't abide in the doctrine of Christ,  we don't have God.
Matthew 15:7-9 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 ‘These people [a]draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”
And remember, Jesus condemned human doctrines.

2  One bishop over the whole congregation
Ephesians 1:22-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Christ is the head of the church.
Acts 14:23 New King James Version (NKJV)
23 So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed
We are to have a pluraity of elders, not just one.
9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating[b] against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.
And look at what happened when Diotrephes wanted to rule over all. He was a hindrance to the Gospel.

3  Man can't save himself, has no free will
Joshua 24:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of [a]the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
But look at this: we are free to choose. We'll serve God or we won't by our own free will.
Galatians 2:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 But from those who seemed to be something—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God [a]shows personal favoritism to no man—for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.
God shows no favoritism to anyone.
Acts 10:34-35 New King James Version (NKJV)
Preaching to Cornelius’ Household
34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
God shows no partiality. Anyone who fears Him and works righteouness He will accept.

4 Born in Sin
Genesis 1:26-27 New King James Version (NKJV)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [a]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
We are made in God's image. All children are innocent. God does not create vile sinners.
Ezekiel 28:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created,
Till iniquity was found in you.
When God creates us we are innocent until the age of accountability which varies from person to person.
Ezekiel 18:4 New King James Version (NKJV)
4 “Behold, all souls are Mine;
The soul of the father
As well as the soul of the son is Mine;
The soul who sins shall die.
Ezekiel 18:21-24 New King James Version (NKJV)
21 “But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. 23 Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?

24 “But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.
These Bible verses prove we are accountable to God and have free will.

Ecclesiastes 7:29 New King James Version (NKJV)
29 Truly, this only I have found:
That God made man upright,
But they have sought out many schemes.”
God created us as upright, but we have sought out many schemes against Him.
Matthew 18:3 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Children are innocent. Not born sinners.
5 Faith only
James 2:24 New King James Version (NKJV)
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
We are justified by works and not faith only.
Luke 6:46 New King James Version (NKJV)
Build on the Rock
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?
We must do what Jesus says.
Matthew 7:21 New King James Version (NKJV)
I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Only those who do  God's will will enter heaven.
Hebrews 5:8-9 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
Jesus gives eternal salvation to those who obey Him.
6 The Episcopal church teaches that the Catholic church is in error yet they follow 95% of its doctrine.
7. The Episcopal church allows for homosexual unions and priests
Leviticus 18:22 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
When God's Word clearly speaks against it.
Leviticus 20:12-13 New King James Version (NKJV)
12 If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death. They have committed perversion. Their blood shall be upon them. 13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
The penalty was death for homosexaulity in Old Testament times.
Romans 1:26-27 New King James Version (NKJV)
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their [a]women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the [b]men, leaving the natural use of the [c]woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
This passage proves that homosexuality is a vile sin.

If you are in the Episcopal church leave immediatly. Obey the Gospel and be added to the Lord's church today (Acts 2:47).
