Morning Sermon: Rebaptism 


And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some discipleshe said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.Now the men were about twelve in all. - Acts 19:1-7 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts19:1-7&version=NKJV
A. These men never heard of the Holy Spirit
B.  These men received John's baptism through Apollos (Acts 18:24-25)
C. Apollos was corrected by Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:26)
D. Paul preached the Gospel to them
E. They were gladly rebaptized for the correct reasons

      1. Have God's mindset toward the lost

A. One Lord, one faith, one baptism
     1. One baptism=immersion. Sprinkling and pouring won't suffice

A. Teach others the Gospel
B. Baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

1. Hear
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? Jesus suffered, bled, and died for our sins (Matthew 26-27, Mark 14-15, Luke 22-23, John 18-19). He arose the third day (Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20)

2. Beleve

3. Repent

4. Confess
Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. 5. Be baptized
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. - Acts 2:38 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts2:38&version=NKJV

6. Remain faithful
Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Lesson: if you were baptized for the wrong reasons (everybody else is doing it) or didn't fully understand why (baptism is for remission of sins) or even received denominational baptism, then I encourage you to be rebaptized today. Better to be safe than eternally sorry.

Afternoon Sermon: Carried Away

Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. - Hebrews 13:9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews13:9&version=NKJV

A. Take heed to what I teach

Example: Hymeneaus and Philetus
And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort,who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. - 2 Timothy 2:17-18 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy2:17-18&version=NKJV
A. These men taught false doctrine
B. They jeopardized their relationship with God
C. They led others astray

These are future events that have not happened yet.

Lesson: know my Bible. If a religious teaching is not supported by the Bible, it's false. Reject it.
