What Does The Scripture Say: Methodist Doctrine

What Does The Scripture Say

Methodist Doctrine

Today we will examine Methodist Doctrine to see if it lines up with the Bible.
First of all notice that the Methodist church began in 1739 in England and John Wesley was its founder.
Yet the Lord's church began on the day of Pentecost in the first century in Jerusalem and Jesus is its founder (Matthew 16:18).

Let's examine the doctrines of the Methodist church

They say there is no all truth from the Bible.
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

II Peter 1:3 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/2pe.1.3.NKJV

But God's Word gives us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

John 17:17 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/jhn.17.17.NKJV

God's Word is truth.

But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:25 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/jas.1.25.NKJV

We are to obey the perfect law of liberty.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

II Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/2ti.3.16-17.NKJV

The Bible is inspired of God.

If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

I Corinthians 14:37 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1co.14.37.NKJV

The Bible contains the commandments of God.

The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

Psalms 119:160 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/psa.119.160.NKJV

His whole word is truth.

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:6‭-‬9 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/gal.1.6-9.NKJV

We are to reject false gospels for there is only one Gospel.

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Acts 2:42 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/act.2.42.NKJV

And we are to continue in the apostles' doctrine not in man made creeds, rule books, and manuels.

The Methodists also teach we are saved by faith only.

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

James 2:24 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/jas.2.24.NKJV

We are justified by works. Not faith only. There are conditions to salvation:

Another false doctrine is we are born and powerless to make the right choice, to be saved.

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord , choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord .”

Joshua 24:15 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/jos.24.15.NKJV

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

Acts 3:19 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/act.3.19.NKJV

We have a choice, though. We can repent and serve God.

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

Acts 10:34 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/act.10.34.NKJV

But from those who seemed to be something—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows personal favoritism to no man—for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.

Galatians 2:6 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/gal.2.6.NKJV
God is no respecter of persons. Does not show personal favoritism.

who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I Timothy 2:4 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1ti.2.4.NKJV

God desires all to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

The Methodists also teach that everyone who believes is a Christian. But that is not what the Bible teaches.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;

Ephesians 4:4 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/eph.4.4.NKJV

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Colossians 3:15 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/col.3.15.NKJV

One body period. Not multiple bodies as the Methodists teach.

Methodists also allow women to be pastors and bishops.

Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

I Timothy 2:11‭-‬12 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1ti.2.11-12.NKJV

Women are not to hold authority over men.

For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

I Timothy 2:13‭-‬14 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1ti.2.13-14.NKJV

This is a commandment from creation.

Adam was formed first. Then Eve. And Eve was deceived and fell into sin.

Methodists also allow mechanical instruments of music.

speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Ephesians 5:19 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/eph.5.19.NKJV

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:16‭-‬17 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/col.3.16-17.NKJV

We are to use only our voices as we praise God.

The Methodists observe the Lord's Supper sporadically. Only the first Sunday of the month and Christmas and Easter.

Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.

Acts 20:7 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/act.20.7.NKJV

But we are to observe the Lord's Supper every Sunday, not just occasionally.

If you are in the Methodist church, leave immediately. Obey the Gospel and be added to the Lord's church (Acts 2:47).
