Gospel Wednesday: False Teachers
I've decided to go a different direction this Wednesday and post about false teachers. This is from my notes which I took during Bible study this past Sunday, Stephen Wiggins preaching the lesson.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Don't believe everything we hear. Test all religious doctrines by God's Word the Bible.
By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Be like the noble Bereans. Search the Scriptures daily to see whether these things are so.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Beware of false teachers.
Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

False teachers cause divisions, serve themselves, and deceive the innocent. Avoid them.
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Don't let our minds be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Don't believe false gospels.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Beware lest anyone spoils you and you lose my salvation.
Don't fall for false gospels: once saved always saved, sinner's prayer, faith only. It can cost your eternal soul.
Simply put, if someone presents to you a religious doctrine and can't provide book, chapter, and verse concerning that doctrine, then it's false. Reject it! Cling to the true gospel.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
