Sacred Truth Friday: Count Your Blessings

Today's Devo

Count Your Blessings > Lyrics | Johnson Oatman, Jr.

  1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
    When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
    Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
    And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
    • Refrain:
      Count your blessings, name them one by one,
      Count your blessings, see what God has done!
      Count your blessings, name them one by one,
      *Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
      [*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.]
  2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
    Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
    Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
    And you will keep singing as the days go by.
  3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
    Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
    Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
    Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
  4. So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
    Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
    Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
    Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:1-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sang the above hymn in church during Wednesday night Bible Study. This hymn rings with truth: count your blessings, not your troubles. I have a family, friends, a steady job, a Bible based church to go to, Bible, Jesus, God.
I'm indeed blessed. And don't forget the benefits of God. Mercy through Jesus. Salvation. Loving kindness toward us.
Carrying a copy of this hymn with me every where I go to remind myself count my blessings, not my troubles.
