Gospel Wednesday: 1 Timothy Chapter 4: Living Godly

1 Timothy Chapter 4

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. These things command and teach.Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you. - 1 Timothy 4:1-16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Timothy4:1-16&version=NKJV

Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. - 1 Timothy 4:12 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Timothy4:12&version=NKJV

We are to be an example to the believers in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith and purity.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians5:22-23&version=NKJV

As New Testament Christians we should have the fruit of the Spirit within our lives.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. - 2 Peter 1:5-9 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Peter1:5-9&version=NKJV

And we should increase in the seven Christian graces which are: virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.

having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. - 1 Peter 2:12 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Peter2:12&version=NKJV

We should live honorable among unbelievers that when they see our good works they may glorify God and be saved as well.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. - Matthew 5:16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew5:16&version=NKJV
