What Does The Scripture Say: Catholicism

What Does The Scripture Say
Catholicism

The Catholic church is not from the Bible. Instead it's a departure from the faith.

Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

Matthew 15:7‭-‬9 NKJV

The Catholics place the teachings of men above or equal to the Word of God.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;

I Timothy 4:1‭-‬4 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1ti.4.1-4.NKJV

This began in the first century. As people were saying certain people could not marry and certain foods were forbidden.
And look at what Catholicism teaches: celibacy and certain foods forbidden on certain days.
Priests cannot marry. But no where in the Bible is marriage forbidden for anyone. Period.

I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

III John 1:9‭-‬11 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/3jn.1.9-11.NKJV

Diotrephes loved to be on top. To be the top dog. To have the preeminence. To rule over others.
And the papacy began Ignatius of Antioch around A.D. 100 to 150 who wanted power and authority. This led to the Pope who is the "supposed" head of God's church today.
But what does the Bible say?

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

Ephesians 5:23 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/eph.5.23.NKJV

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Colossians 1:18 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/col.1.18.NKJV

Christ is the head of the church. He has the preeminence. Not the Pope.

Catholic writer John O' Brien had this to say about Scripture in his book The Faith of Millions, a lay guide for Catholics: "From all of which it must be abundantly clear that the Bible alone is not a safe and competent guide because it is not now, and has never been, accessible to all, because it is not clear and intelligible to all, and because it does not contain all the truth of the Christian religion."
That's a brazen statement to make about the Bible.
Catholics want people to think the Bible is not clear, intelligible, does not contain all truth or all information on the Christian religion.
If people began to read their Bibles and know what to do to obey the Gospel then Catholicism would be eradicated.

Catholics say "the Bible is not our only guide" but the Bible says in Colossians 3:17 to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. In other words, do everything according to God's authority.
John 17:17 says God's Word is all truth.

by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ),

Ephesians 3:4 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/eph.3.4.NKJV

We can understand the Bible according to this verse.

Also in his book The Faith of Millions John O'Brien says: "The simple fact is that the Bible, like all dead letters, calls for a living interpreter. Just as the Supreme Court is the authorized living interpreter of the Constitution, so the Catholic church is the living, authoritative interpreter of the Bible."

First of all the Bible is not a dead letter but is "living and powerful" (Hebrews 4:12).
And nowhere in the Bible does it say the Catholic church is the living interpreter of the Bible.

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:17 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/eph.5.17.NKJV

We have a personal obligation to understand God's will.
But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.

Matthew 23:8‭-‬9 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.23.8-9.NKJV

With religious leaders we are to call no one Father but God alone. Yet Catholics call priests their Father.

Catholicism says the Pope has all authority on all religious matters and is preserved from making error.
What does the Bible say?
Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and fall short of God's glory, including the Pope.
And in Acts 14 and 20 there was a a plurality of elders in every city not just one over the whole church.

Catholics teach penance which is not in accord with the Scriptures. They say that sins are forgiven by the church. By absolution. By an authorized priest.
But God is the only one who can forgive sin.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I John 1:9 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/1jn.1.9.NKJV

Catholics also teach that the mode of baptism is sprinkling.
But look at what these Scriptures say:

It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.

Mark 1:9‭-‬10 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/mrk.1.9-10.NKJV

So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

Acts 8:38‭-‬39 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/act.8.38-39.NKJV

Baptism is immersion. In order to come up out of the water, you must be immersed, not sprinkled.
According to Romans 6:1-4 baptism is a burial, not sprinkling.

And Catholics baptize babies. But children are innocent until they reach the age of accountability (Isaiah 7:16) and have no need for baptism.

Catholics exalt Mary, Peter, Mother Teresa. Have statues of them.
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

Matthew 4:10 NKJV
https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.4.10.NKJV

The Bible says we are to worship only God.

Clearly we can see the Catholic church is not of the Bible. If you are in the Catholic church leave today. Obey the Gospel and become a member of the Lord's church which we read about in the New Testament.
