In Depth Bible Study: Standing on the Edge of Eternity Lesson 5

Standing on the Edge of Eternity Lesson 5

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” - Acts 1:9-11 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts1:9-11&version=NKJV
Jesus will descend the same way in which He ascended into heaven when He returns. This will come as a thief in the night and this whole universe will be destroyed (2 Peter 3:10).
In 2nd Peter 3, the Christians were facing persecution, suffering and apostasy. We could be facing the same struggles: grief, persecution, apostasy. But our mindset must be heaven.
We are to live holy, righteous lives. Our lives should be a daily sacrifice to God and His will. Let Him transform us. And conduct ourselves in fear (Titus 2:11-14, Romans 12:1-2, 1 Peter 1:17). We are to walk in wisdom remembering the terror of the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:1-11). God is serious about sin and will punish.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, - Philippians 3:20 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians3:20&version=NKJV
Remember our citizenship is in heaven. Let's stay prepared by living holy each day.
