In Depth Bible Study: Qualities of Love

does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; - 1 Corinthians 13:5 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Corinthians13:5&version=NKJV
Love is not irritable.

But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. - Genesis 37:4 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis37:4&version=NKJV
We should never choose favorites. This can irritate people.

but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. - Genesis 4:5 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis4:5&version=NKJV
Cain was angry when God rejected his offering. In his anger, he sinned. Killed his brother, Abel. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:26-27 to not sin in our anger. Don't even give the devil a foothold through this destructive force. Deal with anger correctly by going to God with it first. Pray for the other person you're angry at. And be reconciled to them.

God is not irritable with us. So why be irritable with others? Overlook their weaknesses like God does with us.

But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. - 1 Thessalonians 2:7 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Thessalonians2:7&version=NKJV
Be gentle with others. Love others even if they don't love us (2 Corinthians 12:15).

Let's not overestimate ourselves (Romans 12:3).  Remember our own sinfulness (1 Timothy 1:15), and we'll be more patient with others. God does not reject us. He accepts us.
