This verse warns us to be on guard. Satan seeks to devour us spiritually. He is after those who have submitted to God in Gospel obedience. So how do you resist him?
1. Humble yourself. Realize your need and dependence upon God.
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6 NKJV

2. Submit to God. Surrender all to Him
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7 NKJV

3. Draw near to God
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

The Gospel in a nutshell
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV
