In Depth Bible Study: Walking Worthy Lesson 1

Walking Worthy
Lesson 1

This week we begin our next study, Walking Worthy by Wade Casey from West Main church of Christ in Lewisville, TX. I'll be posting the YouTube videos along with the lessons.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, - Ephesians 4:1 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians4:1&version=NKJV
The theme is, obviously, to walk worthy of our calling.

Priscilla and Aquila accompanied Paul on his first missionary journey to Ephesus. Apollos was from the city of Ephesus as wel . He was zealous, good. Yes, at the beginning, he taught people incorrectly, preaching only John's baptism. But once Priscilla and Aquila corrected him, he began to preach Jesus (Ephesians 18:18-28).

When Paul returned to Ephesus, he realized that 12 men had received John's baptism. The wrong baptism. Paul taught them the Gospel and they obeyed being baptized into Jesus' name for the remission of sins.
Paul then conducted his ministry for 2 years in Ephesus. People obeyed the Gospel. Burned their magic books (Acts 19:1-20).

Great opposition to the Gospel arose. Because people were abandoning their idols for the true living God, Demetrius was losing funds. So him and his craftsmen caused an uproar in the city. They even seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul's travel companions. Alexander tried to speak up, but the crowd wouldn't let him.
Then a turn of events: the city clerk rescued these three men, saying there was no reason for the uproar. God worked out the situation through the city clerk (Acts 19:23-41).

Paul told the Ephesian elders to take care of the church. This man had served God fully all his days. Paul then made his journey to Jerusalem (Acts 20:17-38).

“To the  angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says  He who holds the seven stars in His right hand,  who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands:“I know your works, your labor, your  patience, and that you cannot  bear those who are evil. And  you have tested those  who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have  not become weary.Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works,  or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give  to eat from  the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”’ - Revelation 2:1-7 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation2:1-7&version=NKJV
The Ephesian church was faithful in good works and doctrine, yes, but had left their first love. Let's keep the love burning for our Savior while we daily serve Him.
