Sacred Truth Friday: Traits of the Bible; Lesson from Uzza
Stephen is back from his Gospel Meeting.
Morning Sermon
Traits of the Bible
1. Inspired of God:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, - 2 Timothy 3:16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy3:16&version=NKJV
Live by that inspired Word (Matthew 4:4). Holy men spoke as they were moved by God (2 Peter 1:21).
2. Authoritative:
He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him— the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. - John 12:48 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John12:48&version=NKJV
Live as though I will be judged by the law of liberty, which I most certainly will (James 2:12).
3. Sufficient:
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:17 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Timothy3:17&version=NKJV
Rely on His Word only in religious matters (2 Peter 1:3).
4. Has no errors:
in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, - Titus 1:2 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Titus1:2&version=NKJV
His Word is truth (John 17:17).
5. Indestructible:
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. - Matthew 24:35 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew24:35&version=NKJV
Lesson: rely on His Word, not man made creeds and doctrines.
Afternoon Sermon
Lesson from Uzza
Then David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of the Lord our God, let us send out to our brethren everywhere who are left in all the land of Israel, and with them to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and their common-lands, that they may gather together to us;and let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we have not inquired at it since the days of Saul.”Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor in Egypt to as far as the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath Jearim. And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, to Kirjath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who dwells between the cherubim, where His name is proclaimed. So they carried the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart. Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets. And when they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark; and he died there before God.And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzza; therefore that place is called Perez Uzza to this day.David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”So David would not move the ark with him into the City of David, but took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months. And the Lord blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that he had. - 1 Chronicles 13:1-14 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Chronicles13:1-14&version=NKJV
Uzza touched the ark. God struck him dead. David did not seek out God's divine will regarding moving the ark. David finally acknowledged the Levites were to move the ark (1 Chronicles 15:2). The Levites were to sanctity themselves that they may bring the ark (1 Chronicles 15:12). God's divine will was not sought when David first moved the ark (15:13).
The Levites then sanctified themselves and carried the ark (15:14-15).
Lesson: seek out God's prescribed way. I'm obligated under the New Testament,n the Old. Do all by Jesus authority (Colossians 3:17). Abide in His doctrine (2 John 2:9). Worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Gospel must be obeyed. Live the Christian life.
