Sacred Truth Friday: One Body; Where Do the Dead Go?

Morning Sermon:
One Body

endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;one Lord, one faith, one baptism;one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. - Ephesians 4:3-6 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians4:3-6&version=NKJV
A. Keep the unity of the Spirit in peace
B. Seven ones
     1. One body
     2. One Spirit
     3. One hope
     4. One Lord
     5. One faith
     6. One baptism
     7. One God and Father

The body is the church. And Christ is head of it (Ephesians 1:22-23). Plurality of churches condemned in the Bible. Example: Division in the Corinthian church (1 Corinthians 1:10-15).

And I also say to you that  you are Peter, and  on this rock I will build My church, and  the gates of Hades shall not  prevail against it. - Matthew 16:18 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew16:18&version=NKJV

He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. - John 3:29 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John3:29&version=NKJV
A. Jesus has one bride, the church, not multiple brides.

but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. - 1 Timothy 3:15 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Timothy3:15&version=NKJV
A. God has one house, the church, not multiple houses

Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you. - Romans 16:16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans16:16&version=NKJV
A. Congregations of the Lord's church, not multiple churches

Christ is the Savior of this one body, the church (Ephesians 5:23). The Bible teaches one body. Oneness of the Lord's church.

“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who  will believe in Me through their word;that they all may be one, as  You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.And the  glory which You gave Me I have given them,  that they may be one just as We are one:I in them, and You in Me;  that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. - John 17:20-23 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John17:20-23&version=NKJV
A. Jesus' beautiful prayer for unity
     1. Denominationalism goes against this prayer.

Lesson: there is one body, one church, one bride, one house, one kingdom (church).

Afternoon Sermon:
Where Do the Dead Go?

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. - James 2:26 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James2:26&version=NKJV
A. Seperation of body and spirit=death
B. Spirit returns to God (Ecclesiastes 12:7)
C. Then makes its way to the Hadean realm where it'll either be in torment or Paradise (Luke 16:19-31)

And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, - Hebrews 9:27 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews9:27&version=NKJV
A. Appointment with death can't be canceled

Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will  hear His voiceand come forth— those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. - John 5:28-29 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John5:28-29&version=NKJV
A. Resurrection happens after Jesus returns (1 Thessalonians 4:16)
B. Spirits receive a body fit for the spiritual realm (1 Corinthians 15:52)
C. We will all be judged (2 Corinthians 5:10)

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father,  inherit the kingdom  prepared for you from the foundation of the world:“Then He will also say to those on the left hand,  ‘Depart from Me, you cursed,  into the everlasting fire prepared for  the devil and his angels:And  these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” - Matthew 25:34,41,46 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew25:34,41,46&version=NKJV
A. We will either be sentenced to heaven or hell at the judgment (judgment is declarative, not determintive)

Lesson: Death is certain. Be prepared by obeying the Gospel. And stay prepared by remaining faithful.
