As New Testament Christians we are to follow Christ's example and serve others.
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Christ was humble. He served others and obeyed God to the point of death upon the cross. This is a great pattern for us to emulate.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

We are to do good to all. Even our enemies.
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. Jesus washed the disciples feet. This type of service we should have toward our brothers and sisters in Christ.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

People will know we are Christians if we have love for one another.
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

And we should sacrifice for the brethren. This is what true love does.
So let's serve as Christ did and show the world that we belong to Him.
