Agape love. A command for New Testament Christians. Not an option.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. - 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Corinthians13:1-8&version=NKJV
A. Without love we are nothing.
B. And without it, no heaven (Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. - 1 John 3:15 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1John3:15&version=NKJV)
C. Look at these qualities of love. I admit. I fail at this. And have plenty of room to grow.

Agape love puts others first. Agape love makes true sacrifices. Agape love even loves its enemies.

God will not force us to love Him or others.

And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.” - Revelation 22:10-11 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation22:10-11&version=NKJV
A.  Aim for holiness and righteousness

“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars;and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary.Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. - Revelation 2:2-4 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Revelation2:2-4&version=NKJV
A. Ephesus church lacked love. Not good.

Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat.And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Teacher, say it.”“There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.”Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” - Luke 7:36-47 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke7:36-47&version=NKJV
A. Love little.

We love Him because He first loved us. - 1 John 4:19 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1John4:19&version=NKJV
A. Love because He first loved us

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. - Ephesians 5:1-2 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians5:1-2&version=NKJV
A. Walk in love

B. Give (sacrifice) ourselves as Christ sacrificed Himself for us.
